As the winter solstice starts to swiftly sweep across the nation, our attention is switched achieving the perfect cool toned, icy blonde – in our eyes, the icier the better! Whether it’s been the frosty air, or the ice glazing the streets which we walk along, we know one thing that’s for sure – we’ve got hair that’s fit for a ice queen on our mind!
Safy Burton, from Safy B’s Salon in Aylesbury is widely recognised as being the ‘Queen of Vibrant Colours’; but with winter fast approaching, she loves creating sleek, shimmering shades in the salon. Safy said: “With cool toned icy blondes, the main goal is for the hair to look like a sheet of ice, which glistens and glows in the light. This colour works best on hair that is in optimum health, pairing perfectly with its lustrously flawless appearance. For that added icy oomph, create a blue ombre at the ends of the hair for that frosty appeal!”
Safy B’s Formula:
Start with a level 9 base achieved with Goldwell Oxycur with 20 vol roots, lightened and toned with 10v Goldwell Topchic and 10 vol on roots. Then apply Goldwell 10BS Colourance on the mid lengths. For the blue ombre, mix Goldwell Elumen Play Black and Clear and apply – the black undertone is blue so this creates that beautiful blue blend.
Safy continues: “This colour beautifully compliments cool toned skin, harmonising your client’s overall appearance, without washing them out. This shade can also work for warm toned skin, but I often think it can look quite stark with the contrast between the cool and warm tones, leaving their skin to appear sallow.”
After the cold winter nights, blonde locks can often be left looking dry, brittle, and a little frazzled – and nobody wants that!
Safy B shared her tips on how to keep your client’s blonde looking bright, beautiful, and bouncy throughout the colder months. “The colder weather is especially damaging to hair that has been bleached, which is already more prone to breakage. Recommend that your client gets regular trims to seal the ends and prevent further damage to their bleached hair. For me, it’s all in the aftercare. I always recommend that my blonde clients make time for a treatment – it’s both luxurious, nourishing and protecting! Over time, icy blonde will gradually turn brassy, and your clients can’t escape it! Of all the dreaded hair woes, brassiness is one of the many struggles of being a blonde! I’d recommend Goldwell Dualsenses Blondes and Highlights Anti-Yellow 60 Sec Treatment to instantly banish any brassiness!”
