Suzie McGill, Rainbow Room International Artistic Director and Fellowship for British Hairdressing Hairdresser of the year 2025 on Anna Sawai look at the 2025 SAG Awards

Anna Sawai’s sleek, centre-parted blowout at the SAG Awards was a masterclass in subtle yet striking styling. The smooth, polished finish complemented the sculptural structure of her red gown, allowing its bold silhouette to take focus while maintaining an effortless and composed presence.

By keeping the hair refined and precise the look felt modern and considered, enhancing the overall impact without overwhelming. Understated yet intentional, it was a testament to how meticulous, well-executed styling can create a lasting impression on the red carpet

Brian ‘Leo’ McCallum, Owner & Colour Director of ROAR Hair & Beauty and UK & IRE Goldwell Educator on Keke Palmers vibrant old money bob

Keke Palmer’s SAG Awards hair was a bold and polished reinterpretation of vintage glamour. Her voluminous, face-framing bob, featuring soft, sculpted waves, evoked the ‘80s while perfectly complementing her vintage Chanel ensemble.

The fresh electric ginger hue added a contemporary edge, a striking shade that is already being predicted as one of the biggest colour trends of the year. This dramatic transformation not only made a powerful red carpet statement but also demonstrated the skilful use of classic techniques to create a modern, high-impact look. The overall effect was a seamless fusion of past and present, making the style a standout moment of the evening.

Dan Spiller, Colour Expert and Joico EMEA Ambassador, on Sofia Carson’s Raven -Black Sleek style

Her glossy raven-black hair was rich, striking and full of depth, and was expertly styled into a side part and pulled into a sleek, tight chignon. The deep, jet-black colour created a bold contrast against the soft lines of the gown, adding a polished edge.

The clean lines of the chignon worked in harmony with the sculptural details of the gown, offering a balanced contrast that highlighted both the hair and the dress. This choice of styling emphasised the elegance of the overall look, showcasing how a simple, precise hairstyle can elevate intricate fashion details while maintaining an air of understated glamour.

Chris Grimley, Textured Hair Specialist, owner of Fusion Hair Co & Texture Curl Academy, on Rosalind Eleazar’s textured updo

At the SAG Awards, Rosalind Eleazar’s updo was a bold statement, showcasing the beauty and versatility of textured Afro hair. Her natural hair was styled with precision, incorporating both locs and braids that added intricate texture and dimension. The voluminous base of her Afro was expertly shaped, while the braids were strategically placed to enhance the overall structure and movement of the look.

The locks were meticulously arranged into an elevated updo, creating a striking silhouette that highlighted the power and uniqueness of natural hair. This look was a powerful demonstration of how textured hair can be styled with both strength and style, making an impactful red-carpet moment.

Safy Burton, Owner of Safy B’s Salon on Zooey Deschanel’s Bombshell Bouffant:

“The iconic 60s bouffant is back, with Zooey Deschanel opting for the glamourous style at last night’s SAG Awards. The bouffant is all about volume with an ultra-feminine edge, and when it comes to the iconic up-do – bigger is always better! Zooey’s bouncy, bombshell bouffant demands attention on the red carpet and plenty of hairspray! Tease the hair away from the crown of the head and spritz with lots of hairspray to ensure that the style stays in place for a night of red carpet appearances!”

Nicholas James, Celebrity Session Stylist and Owner Nicholas James Hair on Millie Bobby Brown’s honey blonde:

Millie Bobby Brown looked absolutely stunning at this year’s SAG Awards – I can’t believe that she’s not gone blonde sooner! Her warm skintone has golden undertones which pairs perfectly with her honey blonde hue – brightening and flattering her complexion. She styled her golden locks in a tight chignon which compliments her oval face shape, with a single face framing wisp to harmonise the look’s sultry, sleek vibe.”

Tina Farey, Editorial Director at RUSH on Leighton Meester’s auburn debut:

“On the SAG Red Carpet, Leighton Meester switched her classic brunette hue, in favour for a warm auburn shade. Finding your ‘season’ has grown in popularity on social media – and, when it comes to Leighton Meester, she’s a dark autumn which means this shade harmonises her overall appearance. Her warm, golden skintone and dark brown eyes pop with this warm auburn hue, in comparison to her cool brunette shade which completely overpowered her. Her new shade was paired with soft Hollywood waves and sophisticated side parting – gorgeous!”

Jay Birmingham, Celebrity Session Stylist:

“Side-partings took over the SAG Awards – they’ll definitely be having their resurgence in 2025. Recently the side parting got a bad reputation from Gen Z who classed the parting as ‘outdated’ but that’s all about to change. Side partings have an elegant allure, elevating the most basic, classic styles and flattering almost any face shape. Elle Fanning styled her sleek blonde hair with classic waves, but her deep, dramatic side parting stole the show. Elle has a square-shaped face which is complimented beautifully by the asymmetry of a side parting – softening her face and accentuating her delicate features.”

Tracey Ann Smith from French & Ivi:

“You thought we left chunky highlights in the 90s? Wrong! The face-framing larger ribbons are perfect for those who want to opt for a more daring look with these highlights being purposely unblended. Joey King’s chunky blonde highlights subtly contrast her naturally warm brunette hair, beautifully framing her face and adding depth, definition and movement to her block colour. We’ll definitely be seeing more chunky highlights in 2025!”
