As a women-owned business, we at hairdressing.co.uk are taking the opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of women around the world. We hope you take a moment to reflect on all the incredible women in your life too. To mark this special occasion, we chatted with industry professionals about the women who inspire them the most. They also gave us insight into how they celebrate such an important day.
Safy Burton from Safy B’s Hair Salon
How do you celebrate International Women’s Day in your salon? “At Safy B’s, we don’t just celebrate women for one day, we celebrate everyone, every day! But International Women’s Day is always a great excuse to shout about the amazing women in our team and industry. Whether it’s supporting each other, hyping up our clients, or just creating a space where everyone feels empowered, we make sure the salon is filled with good vibes,” says Safy Burton.

What advice would you give to a woman starting out in the industry? “Find your people and keep learning! Surround yourself with people who lift you up, never stop pushing your skills, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. It’s not just about doing great hair, it’s about the experience you create and the connections you make,” she advises.
Gill Berry from JOICO EMEA Team
What advice would you give to a woman starting out in the industry? “My piece of advice would be to get the best foundation skills in the craft and experiment with different areas of hairdressing to potentially uncover your niche. Find a salon that is enthusiastic about education and wants to grow with you and help you build your inner confidence,” says Gill Berry.

What’s one piece of advice that has stuck with you? “My mum always said if it doesn’t kill you, it will only make you stronger – it’s always stuck with me, and I have used it mentally throughout most of my career,” she shares.
Chris Grimley from Fusion Hair Co.
Tell us about women who have inspired you… “I tend to like the unsung hero type women, the ones that graft, the ones that get stuck in and just get stuff done without wanting glory or anything like that. My mum, my nana, and people like that have inspired me over the years,” says Chris Grimley.
What advice would you give to a woman starting out in the industry? “Work hard, make as many contacts as you can, be kind, and call anyone out for being unkind. Just work as hard as you can and ask people for help—people think the industry is unapproachable, but most people are really nice to be fair. So yeah, if there’s something you need help with, just ask!” he advises.

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women and to acknowledge the ongoing journey towards equality. Let’s take this day to appreciate the incredible women in our lives and continue to support and uplift one another.
