Hairdressing.co.uk Presents: The Top Hair Trends That Defined 2024
As 2024 draws to a close, anticipation builds for relaxing holidays, new opportunities in the New Year, and—most excitingly—Spotify Wrapped, which lets us reflect on the year’s most beloved songs. In the spirit of reflection, we at Hairdressing.co.uk have decided to celebrate the top hair trends that have defined this vibrant year.
The Lob – Jamie Benny from Benny & Co.
The ‘Lob’—a relaxed take on the classic bob, hovering between shoulder-length and the collarbones—has dominated 2024. “The ‘Lob’ truly has been the defining haircut of the year.
Clients with long hair have flocked for the chop. Trends like ‘Old Money’ and the ‘French Girl’ look have taken social media by storm, and the ‘Lob’ embodies that chic essence while also benefiting hair health,” said Jamie Benny from Benny & Co.
Sabrina Carpenter Blonde – Tracey-Ann Smith from French & Ivi
This year, it wasn’t Barbie but Sabrina Carpenter’s Vanilla Blonde that captured our hearts. Think subtle creamy blonde with brighter golden strands seamlessly blended.
Tracey-Ann Smith from French & Ivi said, “This ultra-dimensional, creamy yet cool blonde can be achieved by blending highlights and lowlights to add depth. To maintain this hue, use a champagne-colored toner to give the hair that extra oomph!”
Curtain Bangs – Safy Burton from Safy B’s
In 2024, it was all about curtain bangs. These bangs frame the face like curtains do a window, differing from traditional blunt styles.
“Wispy Curtain Bangs were a standout trend, sported by celebrities like Daisy Edgar Jones and Selena Gomez. They elevate almost any cut, adding texture and dimension, and they’re low-maintenance too. To style, use a round brush to blow-dry the bangs away from the face,” said Safy B from Safy B’s.
Cowboy Copper – Seung Ki Baek from RUSH
Country music’s influence extended to hair trends with Cowboy Copper leading the way. This warm, inviting shade has transformed looks for stars like Kendall Jenner and Sydney Sweeney.
Seung Ki Baek of RUSH Artistic Team noted, “Cowboy Copper was a favorite in 2024. Seeing redheads back in the spotlight is exciting, and I expect this trend to evolve further in 2025.”
Wet Looks – Suzie McGill from Rainbow Room International
From festivals to fashion weeks, the Wet Look has been a go-to style in 2024, gracing celebrities like Billie Eilish, Kylie Jenner, and Bella Hadid.
Suzie McGill, Creative Director at Rainbow Room International, said, “Creating the Wet Look is a technical challenge, but when done right, it’s a showstopper. Keep the look ‘wet’ with a mix of gel and glossing spray.”
Two Tone – Brian ‘Leo’ Mccallum from ROAR Hair & Beauty
The bold trend of Two-Tone hair, featuring striking combinations of two distinct shades, emerged strongly in 2024.
Brian ‘Leo’ McCallum from ROAR Hair & Beauty, known for his innovative color techniques, championed this trend, saying, “Two-Tone hair is about personalization and creativity. Clients have experimented with everything from bold contrasts to softer tones, embracing individuality.”
Wolf Cut – Paul Watts from JOICO
The edgy Wolf Cut, combining elements of a mullet and shag, captured attention in 2024. This style features choppy layers, volume, and a chic finish.
Paul Watts, Senior Creative Colour Artist within the JOICO EMEA Artist Team, describes the Wolf Cut as a ‘modern take’ on classic styles, adding, “It offers nostalgia with a fresh twist and suits all hair types, textures, and lengths.”
As we wrap up 2024, these hair trends highlight a year of creativity, individuality, and a blend of classic and modern styles. Here’s to more bold and beautiful looks in the year ahead!
