How to Rock a Romantic Red Hair Colour this Valentine’s Day, According to the Queen of Colour Herself

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and with that in mind, we caught up with the QUEEN OF COLOUR, Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International and current British Hairdressing Awards British Colour Technician of the Year to get her comments on how to create the perfect Valentine’s Day inspired red hair colour…

We had previously coloured my model’s hair a gorgeous fire inspired orange, which meant we did not need to pre-lighten the hair when it came to changing it to this delicious candy apple red hue.

For clients with a dark base, you will need to pre-lighten the hair before applying your red. Using a product like Schwarzkopf BlondMe Bond Enforcing Premium Lightener is a great choice for minimised hair breakage whilst also achieving lift with a clean finish and shine.

When creating this red tone, I wanted it to look as vibrant as possible, with a gorgeous sleekness and shine, therefore product selection was key.

I firstly used Schwarzkopf Professional Red Chroma on top of 8.77 -077 roots and for mid length to ends L –77. This intense pigment ensured the colour has intense results whilst also caring for the hair to ensure it looked as healthy and glossy as possible following the colour process.

I then used Schwarzkopf Professional Chroma ID Red Bonding Color Mask to create maximum punch and shine before finishing with smooth, sleek styling to show off the colour to its full potential and the different tones, colour merging and blending techniques that were used through the hair.
